Oooh my third earthquake…

So here I was sat in my Fresno office, and I felt my 3rd earthquake in 4 years of living in California….

It was quite a ways away in the mountains, and it currently reported at a 3.8 (I would not have noticed if I wasn’t I was sat down).

For those people who question my sanity for living in an “earthquake hotspot”, rest assured I am still alive and coding…

Apple TV vs MacMini

My work buddy diatoid just purchased a MacMini for use in the living room, and is pretty happy with using it as a home entertainment system – especially as we just figured out how to stream DivX movies from his linux server to the FrontRow interface: You just mount a network drive and create a symlink from the /Volumes/MountedShare in your /Users/username/Movies/ folder.

I have been pondering a Home PC / Network Entertainment system for a while, especially since I have a load of DivX movies (legal backups). Wouldn’t it be nice to play movies on your big screen plasma just like playing from a DVD jukebox? What about streaming music?

Home town fun at the hairdressers

Quirkies are reporting that a hair salon in my beautifull hometown of York has successfully applied for a drinks licence. Yes, this means they can serve you a traditional English pint whilst trimming your hair. This may sound strange to americans, but to a Brit this makes perfect sense. You may notice around the UK there are a lot of people with long hair, this is because they do not see the neccessity of making time away from the pub just to get their hair cut. I foresee a future of very short haired yorkies….
