California Wildfires

At a lunch I attended today Scott McNealy (CEO Sun Microsystems) listed his top 10 things to do with California. I think it was number 7 which caught my attention: Earthquakes, Mudslides and Wildfires.

Of course that is particuar pertinent at the present when so many wildfires are raging in southern California.

An Inconvenient Mistruth?

BBC: “A High Court judge who ruled on whether climate change film, An Inconvenient Truth, could be shown in schools said it contains ‘nine scientific errors’.”

I think that the judge in this case has made the correct decision. The DVD of Al Gore’s movie was being sent free of charge to schools across the UK. One of the most important things we can teach our children is objectivity, and the ability to analyze and decide on matters for themselves. Watching a drunk driver get arrested and then freed…

On Friday on the way home from my lovely wife’s birthday dinner we saw a number of police vehicles in our neighborhood. We also saw a female getting given the police sobriety test. An article in our local paper explains what had occurred.

It turns out there was a hit and run accident, with a female perpetrator, Diana Almanza. Big Bad Bubbas BBQ in Merced dissapointing

So, last night was my lovely wife’s birthday, and she invited the whole family to meet at Big Bad Bubba’s BBQ in downtown Merced.

This place has a lot going for it. There is a mechanical bull that the guests can ride, a cool indoor tree house, and an otherwise great theme that could really work out.

Unfortunately, there is a lot going wrong there as well. On Wednesday my lovely wife had called and made a reservation for our party (of nine people). When we got there last night, they stated they did not take reservations. I explained that this was not the case on Wednesday, and on further investigation on the hostess’ clipboard she did discover a “party of nine with no name”. However, “this was not a reservation, as they did not take reservations”. I replied that this was not explained when the telephone call was made, and that whoever did answer the phone on Wednesday gave no hint at this policy as he politely took down our details. I suggested that perhaps this individual should not be allowed to answer the phone in the future if he did not know the restaurant policy.
