Thousands get a tax break on property:

Ok, so the Merced housing market has been spiraling downward, seemingly since my lovely wife and I bought a house in April 2005. But, now people are seemingly happy that some of us have received a letter in the mail from the County Assessors office, telling us that the valuation of our house has gone down and so we get a discount on our next tax bill.

Personally, I would prefer the house to be valued the same as I purchased it for (50k more), rather than saving 500 dollars on my taxes.

New Interchange opens near my house

So at last a new interchange is finished that allows me to take 33 seconds of my commute. Note, I am not complaining, its just that the road that the interchange is meant to serve is not built yet, so it all seems a little pointless as of right now.

However, there is plenty of commercial space in the area, and hopefully there will be a few businesses moving in to serve the south east Merced community which is sorely lacking great commercial facilities.
